Post subject:  Quercus petraea v Quercus robur

hi all
i would like to know peoples thoughts on which of these trees is best for bonsai? Quercus petraea or Quercus robur .. i have had the best result with Quercus petraea but i am sure some have had better results with Quercus robur. it would be great to hear what you have discovered

well the evidence speaks for itself, there are plenty of fine examples of good Q Robur bonsai, they are a great species to work with. are there many good examples of q petrea? care to share ::dunno:

ps kaizen has a lot of these portuguese ones, they seem to be great material

Thats looking good and in your experience is it a better subject to work with than Q Robur, why? i think if you can reduce the leaf size on them then most species of oak should be great for bonsai.

i think they both make great bonsai but the petraea seems to respond better to bonsai treatment... defoliation etc this is how it seems to me others i am sure will say different
