Little hornbeam/beech that suffered a fungal infection?, and then sunburn. I am quite happy to leave it as there are enough leaves, and the damaged leaves are still producing some nutrients. The odd shaped leaves were trimmed - helped it to ramify and back-bud. It seems stable, as I have watched it carefully and the damage is not increasing. Still, damn irritating. 20170831_192614 by BrendanR2012, on Flickr 20170831_192600 by BrendanR2012, on Flickr

Looks similar to the fungus that attacked my Hornbeams. Killed two of them. My final one is recovering. I wasn't able to find any kind of remedy. Others such as Maros Belan also have Hornbeams suffering from the same. Best is to allow it to grow strongly for a season or two. Avoid watering the leaves. Partial shade. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14112&start=30 |

Did you treat it for fungal infection? their spores can spread like wildfire, even after you remove the infected leaves, so don't leave the dead leaves lying around... |

Untreated. No point in treating it once the spread stopped. No point in treating it as the fungus came into my garden, and removing a few leaves is unlikely to have any effect on the greater spore mass that swirls around us permanently. I will bin the leaves once they go brown. They usually go brown but stay on the tree all winter, so I'll have to pull them off. Is that going to be a problem, as beech and hornbeam don't drop their leaves and maybe they should not be plucked? |
