I would guess at Sageretia. Bird plum.

It's not elm because they have alternate leaves, your tree has opposite leaves.
I don't think it's sagaretia - here's a pic of sagaretia - before I trimmed it last week when i got back from holiday.

I think yours might be a crabapple. The leaves and the bark are similar to sagaratia but crabapple leave are more serrated.

I can show two more photos taken today of the group and the leaves. It is totally pot bound and needs attention but until I know for sure what it is, how to treat it and when, I am loathe to do anything. Will I have to wait and watch to identify it for sure?

I notice some discolouration of some of the leaves, is this a sign that it is deciduous I wonder? It is still outside in the sun at present (I will bring it into the conservatory for the winter). I live in West Wales which is fairly mild but very wet.

Another idea. Could be Zanthoxylum - Pepper tree.

Defo not that. The leaves are a different shape.
