Hello I've recently inherited a collection of 15 trees and would be grateful if anyone could advise me on what I should do. Firstly I must confess to knowing little about these trees. They have been passed onto me by a friend, who, through ill health is no longer able to look after them. One thing I realised immediately is the amount of work which will be necessary to care for them. For me this is the main issue.(apart from not having the knowledge). I am aware that over the years my friend invested substantially on some of the trees. The last thing I want is to see them deteriorate Some of the trees are quite large and stand nearly 4' in height. I don't even know the names of most of them. Although I think the trees are beautiful, I know I will not be able to give them the time and care needed due to work commitments. It won't be practical for me to keep them so I would be grateful for any ideas as to how I should proceed. I've attached a photos of just a few of the trees. Robbo ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hello Robbo. Could the poorly donor help you with the names of the trees? At the moment, endeavour to keep the medium in which they are growing just moist at all times. Removing the weed growth will help you to see the condition of the medium. Try to make contact with a bonsai grower in your area. Practical help will be much more useful than correspondence. The growing season is coming to an end gradually so don't be alarmed if leaves on any deciduous trees seem to be dying. If it is your intention to pass some trees on to knowlegable carers, you will find various notices in these pages about boot sales. and our section viewforum.php?f=13 may find buyers. Your nearest society may be the Cotswold club, which could put you in touch with local growers. The second pic looks like Chamaecyparis Obtusa, not the easiest to care for but watering it right and rotating it every now and then will keep it happy. Remove any wire when it starts to dig in by snipping each coil. you have a lot of reading to do, the advice for pines varies for different types. They are great trees that look like they've had years of work gone into them and I wish you all the best with looking after them |

Some nice trees in there. As Stymie says, if you're looking to get rid of them, you can look at upcoming auctions and bootsales. Another way is to put them up on ebay and set them for collection only, that way you don't need to worry about packaging etc. If you put detailed pictures of each on the 'tree identification' thread, then we should be able to give you the info you need to move them on properly. Finally, just post them in the Buy and Sell area on here, people will happily take a look. Good luck |

Hi, I'd like to thank everyone for the advice you've given, it's much appreciated. Also to the person who's sent me a private message, I'm unable to answer as I've only just joined the forum. I would definitely like to know the names of the trees so I'll be posting the photos in the Tree Identification thread. Thanks again for all the advice. Robbo |

Thanks for the information Don. I'll make contact and see what they say. Also, again, to the person who has messaged me I can't reply as I don't have that privilege as yet. However if you send me contact details I will get in touch. Robbo |

Robbo102 wrote: I would definitely like to know the names of the trees so I'll be posting the photos in the Tree Identification thread. When you do that, important details to capture in the photos are closeups of leaves and needles, bark, buds, flowers and fruit if there are any. For pines, the number of needles in each cluster (it will be 2 or 5) is important. That will help people give you better information. Also, if there are any visible graft lines (where two colours / textures of bark seem to join onto each other near the base, or where there is a visible swelling like your second tree in particular), then that information is useful too. |

I've been to "Bonsai World" and i'd have to say it's very grim there to say the least as I'd driven a way to get there when I arrived I was bursting for the loo so when I went in I asked where the loo was and was told to go in the back very rundown green house with broken glass everywhere health and safety nightmare, and on looking at the trees they had on display and for sale I was extremely Disappointed but if ur not too far i'm sure they may be able to assist with ID'S etc please let us know how you get on i'd be very interested if the place is still there and if it's improved at all |
