Dilute with a little water, dont over complicate, all thats required is a teaspoon or two of vinegar in a small cup half filled with water.. and a toothbrush |

I use neat white vinegar and a battery powered toothbrush. |

I too, have never diluted the vinegar used for killing moss on the bark. The toothbrush is used after the moss has died off. When dry it comes away readily. |

Thanks for your replies.I actually have a spare battery toothbrush not being used, so am I painting on vinegar (I thought maybe using a cotton bud) leaving the algae to die then using a toothbrush? I think that's what you do Don,from the pickle jar!I'm sure the Kaizen one is very good Will but vinegar's much cheaper! Cheers Mo |

Yes Mo. The theory being that the onion smell would discourage unwelcome insect residents. it might do and anyway it does no harm and is preferable to putting the otherwise obsolete vinegar down the plug hole.

Is it algae or moss that you are trying to get rid??? Some smaller algae gives the tree character and feeling of age. Also if the tree is a cork bark or has delicate bark then the last thing you need is an electric toothbrush, it will just strip the bark. do you have a photo?? |

It's a Dawn Redwood forest just one tree has a lot of moss/algae,the trunk on this one was always a bit funny looking but the tree is healthy enough.I'll try and get a pic if it ever stops raining Cheers Mo
