Hi All

I'm new to bonsai ownership and need some advice. I'm pretty good with garden plants and shrubs but this is a whole new world to me. I picked up a healthy looking little tree about a month ago and the first couple of weeks went ok, watered regularly etc.

Taken around the time I bought it...

Then everyday there would be a few yellow leaves. Over watering I thought so I cut back to once every two days.

And then suddenly overnight almost all of the leaves and shoots have gone limp

Is this a tree emergency or can I recover the situation? Are these leaves dead?

Losing the odd yellowing leaf I could deal with but this folding up of the shoots looks really bad. It seemed to coincide with the first time I misted the leaves in a week, but that maybe coincidence? I think putting the little stone chipping on the soil may have been a mistake as I can't judge the soil humidity. I've been feeding every ten days or so with the Lorbex Bonsai Food recommended by the people at Dobbies maybe over done it? I haven't re-potted or anything like that yet. Temperature is around 20 to 23c in the house depending on the weather. It's kept near a window towards a south facing garden but not in direct sunlight.

Any help or advice would be very appreciated.

Cheers
Jas

I have no knowledge of this type of tree or growing indoors but it sounds like lack of light may be the cause of the yellowing. Also although the stones look nice you cant see the medium and judge when it needs watered. Maybe a photo of the medium will help with your questions as it may be water logged. I would stop any feed for the time being. Hopefully someone will pitch in with a more informative answer,Good luck :201thumbup:

It looks like it is wilting. Remove the stones so you can accurately tell how dry it is.

I suspect that it is getting too dry in between waterings. Note that we have had some abnormally hot days recently. I have been watering mine once or even twice a day.

Hey all. Stones are gone and staying gone. I think watering was too random before. Now able to judge soil humidity from one morning to the next and water accordingly. Seems to have worked wonders. Cheers for the pointers.
